Pennywort

Description

Pennywort, Hydrocotyle spp. Often referred to as Gotu Kola, Pennywort shares a similar medicinal profile to its popular counterpart. Used widely in the Ayurvedic tradition and Old World European remedies, Pennywort is seldom recognized in today’s materia medica. Pennywort has long been used as a tonic alterative, an herb used to gradually restore optimal functioning of the body. It increases cerebral vitality, fortifies the blood and supports healthy skin. By aiding blood cell development, Pennywort has a special affinity for wound healing. As a tonic, it promotes circulation and strengthens cellular structures. In acute cases, Pennywort is applied to treat skin conditions of outward heat, like eczema, rheumatism, ulcers and acne. Unlike its cousin, Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica), Pennywort is best utilized in small doses. We conservatively include it in our recipes, optimizing its medicinal benefits for all constitutional types.
