Turmeric root

DESCRIPTION

Turmeric, Olena, Curcuma longa Turmeric is a rhizomatous, perennial herb with bright orange roots. Turmeric is mostly known in India and is also common throughout Southeast Asia, China and southern Australia and can be found in most tropical regions of the world. It is a widely cultivated plant throughout the tropics. In Hawaii, we call it Olena. Its active ingredient is curcumin which tastes earthy, warm, and bitter. Frequently used to flavor or color curry powders, mustards, butters, and cheeses and the root is used to make medicine. The go-to herb for inflammation, Turmeric is a golden tonic used throughout history to enhance healthy circulation in the body. By supporting the liver’s natural ability to cleanse toxins, build blood and promote smooth circulation, Turmeric is a longevity aid that can also target acute inflammatory conditions. Turmeric’s golden color is indicative of its key medicinal qualities: anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-depressant.
