Endocrine Nutrition Expert, Magdalena Wszelaki, Shares Kauai Farmacy

"We introduced you to several teas and spice mixes from Kauai Farmacy a few months ago and that was a huge hit. So many of you have written that their products have made a big difference in your own health and life. Just as for many of you, their teas are part of my daily ritual; the Women's Wellness is my afternoon tea and Tulsi an evening cuppa.

Kauai Farmacy’s teas are not like anything else you have tried. Grown in a lush, tropical, biodynamic (which is superior to organic) farm in Kauai, their flavor, fragrance, nutritional density and energetic vibrations excel any other teas I’ve ever drank.
As much as I try to support local trade and food from your area, this is one of the few things that I make an exception for—just because of the quality and effect on your health.

Calming things down…

This time we decided to focus on their products that help you calm down during the day and at sleep better at night. I think we all need it to some extent right now; be it the life changes caused by Covid, many of you having kids at home 24/7 while maintaining full-time jobs, cancelled trips, shut down gyms and yoga studios, upcoming holidays and the looming question of what that would look like. The current political landscape is plagued by anger, division, half-truths in the mainstream media and social media are most certainly contributing to how many of us feel right now.

I thought it might be helpful to show you a few herbs in the form of tea and tinctures that are well known to calm the racing mind down and help you sleep better.

Tulsi Holy Basil Blend Tea: Known as an herbal adaptogen, tulsi literally helps us “adapt.” In our bodies, tulsi nourishes the adrenals, supporting our “fight or flight” responses, ability to react to stress, and hormonal regulation in the adrenal gland. It’s also revered for its immune-boosting properties. This floral-basil tea is simply divine.

Tranquility Tea: Passion flower (lilikoi) leads the nervines, sedatives and calming herbs in this blend, including lemon balm and vervain. I really am pleased this tea does not contain valerian, which is hit or miss for many.

Wellness Tea: In this full-bodied blend, noni leaf helps with pain relief, immunity, and digestion. Other key herbs include turmeric, tulsi, lemongrass, and galangal—perfect for lifting your spirits to combat cold, flu, allergies, and headaches.

Women's Wellness Tea: The key herb in this blend is chaste (vitex), known for restoring hormone balance in women. Chaste helps with progesterone production, and because progesterone is a calming hormone, it can aid restful sleep and ease anxiety. This tea blend also features herbs that help tone the uterus, build blood, promote circulation, support digestion, regulate water retention, encourage healthy liver functioning, and boost immunity. You’ll want to sip on this tea especially if you’re going through transitions like menstruation, fertility, postpartum, or menopause.

Love Potion Tea: Sweet, spicy, and mood-stimulating, this tea is an adaptogenic, antioxidant, and aphrodisiac experience. It is loaded with bio-active minerals, protein-packed raw cacao, circulatory herbs and three power-house adaptogens: tulsi, gotu kola, and ashwagandha.

Lemon Balm Tincture: This tincture is a major mood booster, thanks to lemon balm. This herb supports the nervous, digestive, cerebral, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. It’s especially good for naturally calming the nervous system. Lemon balm was a great herb for me personally in 2019. That year was actually harder for me than 2020, due to being in herbal school, business stressors, and caring for my two energetic pups. Lemon balm played a huge role in calming the negative chatter in my head.

Passion Flower (Lilikoi) Tincture: Passion flower is a soothing nervine and strong sedative. It’s wonderful for nerves, promoting sleep, and pain relief. It also contains chrysin, an aromatase inhibitor, that stops the conversion of testosterone into estrogen, which can help with estrogen dominance.

I hope you love these products as much as I have. They really are addictive in the most positive sense of this word!

I sat down with Kauai Farmacy founders Doug and Genna to discuss their biodynamic farm. It’s so lush and tranquil, and you’ll even catch a glimpse of it in the video.

We discuss:

- What biodynamic farming is (and how it’s different from organic)
- Benefits of tulsi, lemon balm, chaste (vitex), and passionflower
- How to use calming versus sedative herbs
- See the herbs straight from the gardens!

I’ve said before that it’s difficult for products to impress me. The teas, spices, and tinctures from Kauai Farmacy have exceeded all of my expectations, with their potency, effectiveness, and freshness. They’re also refreshing and delicious, too. Let us know if you try them."
