An Herbal Tea Habit Can Protect Your Heart

An essential to know.

An Herbal Tea Habit Can Protect Your Heart

Herbal tea drinkers have significantly lower rates of heart disease and lower risk of dying — from any cause — according to a 14-year study of nearly 5,000 people.

Even a few cups a week made a real difference. Notably, those with higher intake and consistent use received the greatest benefits.

Scientific findings

Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Medicine Down on the Farm

Herbal tea exhibits significant pharmacological effects, particularly as potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, making it a valuable tool in the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases.

Herbal tea has been used for thousands of years, and modern research is now catching up to what traditional cultures have long known. Studies show that herbal teas are rich in bioactive compounds — particularly phenols — that act as powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. These properties make herbal tea a meaningful tool in the prevention and management of chronic disease, supporting the body at a cellular level with every cup.

What makes herbal tea especially compelling is that it delivers these benefits in one of the simplest, most accessible ways possible — as a warm, enjoyable drink. Research continues to uncover the depth of its nutritional and pharmacological value, with growing interest in its chemical composition and how different plant parts contribute to its healing effects. As science deepens its understanding, herbal tea stands out as a safe, affordable, and effective bridge between food and medicine — one that fits naturally into daily life.

Frequently asked

All About Our Herbal Teas

Is there a best time of year to order?

We grow year-round, so there's no "off season." However, late summer tends to be a period of intense abundance on the farm. And since our products are made to order and sell out fresh, ordering anytime means you're getting a recently harvested, freshly crafted product.

Why does potency sometimes seem to vary between batches?

A few things can influence this. First, plants naturally embody different energies across seasons — a summer harvest and a winter harvest will feel different. Second, freshness matters; even within our high standards, tea that arrives 2 days after harvest may feel more alive than one that's 2 weeks out. Third — and this is something our founder Doug speaks to often — your own body's state plays a significant role. When your system is open, rested, and clear, you'll feel the herbs more profoundly. Our processes and experience have only become more consistent over the years, and we believe our products have never been of higher quality.

How should I store my tea?

Store in a cool, dark place in an airtight container, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Avoid keeping tea near the stove or in a humid cabinet.

How long do your teas stay fresh?

Our loose leaf teas have a shelf life of 1–2 years when stored properly. Our superfood powders are best used within 6–12 months. To test freshness, check that the tea still has good color and a strong, pleasant aroma — if it does, it's good to go.

Can I use the tea in recipes?

Definitely. Our teas and superfood powders integrate beautifully into smoothies, golden lattes, broths, and culinary recipes. Explore our recipe blog at kauaifarmacy.com for inspiration.

Can I drink the tea cold?

Yes! Our Hibiscus Tea is especially popular served cold and keeps beautifully in the refrigerator. You can brew a batch, let it cool, and keep it ready to sip throughout the day.
